Central Co-op

Location: Wildwood Coop Retail Store, Stafford
Sector: Retail
Sustainability Goal: Net-zero carbon emissions

Project Overview

As part of their wider sustainability strategy, Central Co-op aimed to dramatically reduce their carbon footprint and work toward achieving their net-zero targets. To support this ambition, we partnered with them to implement a range of commercial solar PV installations across multiple retail sites.

One standout project took place at their Wildwood retail store, where we proposed and delivered a unique solution, installing a solar carport in addition to the  current rooftop solar install.

Sustainability Is Embracing Innovative

The Challenge

  • Central Co-op wanted to maximise clean energy generation on-site.
  • Space was limited on rooftops alone to meet energy demands.
  • They were unaware of the potential for dead space, such as parking areas, to contribute to energy production.

The Solution

We designed and installed a solar carport system over the customer parking area at the Wildwood store. This innovative solution allowed Central Co-op to:

  • Utilise underused space (the car park) for clean energy generation.
  • Increase total solar output from the site, contributing significantly to their net-zero targets.
  • Add a multi-functional asset to their property.
  • Unexpected benefits to customers who shop with Co-op ; Shade during winter, shelter from rain while loading the shopping into the car and improved customer experience.
